now, junior achievement of northern nevada is working hard to move forward, despite this loss. kolo 8 news now's catherine van joins us live in the studio. cat, this is a hard blow for the organization. they thieves didn't leave them with much. they even took pens and paper. staff are cleaning up the mess they've created... and expect it will be at least a year before business is back to normal. nats: as you can see they grabbed as much as they could and threw it on the ground. each room and drawer... got the same treatment... thieves leaving nothing untouched. bill: robbing from a charity, i don't know if it gets worse than that. junior achievement is a local non-profit that gives kids both classroom and hands-on experience in the business field. bill: we go into classrooms, k- 12, and get community volunteers to teach our programs based on financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurships police believe three or four people may be involved.

thieves pulled up next to the freeway late monday night... cut open the fence and threw a rock through the window. nats: they put that down to step on it and get into the window. there... they rummaged through the building stealing almost everything in sight. bill: it was a gamut of things. the most expensive were computers, servers, printers, those types of things, but they also took food, like protein bars. items that would cost about 16-thousand dollars to replace. bill: just to be safe, we don't carry any cash here, but we had checks, but we couldn't find them so we're assuming that they stole them so we froze all of our accounts so it's more of a nuisance more than anything. but the organization is slowly getting back on track... nats: a computer was just donated to us by diane nicolette and her husband form tmcc. through donations... it has already received three computers... and three printers bill: people have been so giving, thank you everyone for the support.

junior achievement received a grant to upgrade security system which was scheduled to for next week. the office could use any computer items or supplies you might not need. to them at 7-85 west sixth street. in the studio...cvk8nn. california's new corrections chief, plans to add training as he tries to change a culture that often pits prison guards, against inmates. scott kernan started as a correctional officer in 1983. a time when state prisons were so crowded, that federal judges set a limit on the inmate population. the cap takes effect later this month. kernan says, crowded violent atmosphere... few rehabilitation programs... and an us- against-them attitude from guards. ### a member of the nevada air guard has been found dead in pyramid lake. officials say police received a call monday about a possible missing boater in a canoe.

searching after the popcorn beach. the body of 26-year-old michael anthony beaton island yesterday. beaton was a nevada air guardsman and his last known address was in las vegas. officials say beaton was wearing a life jacket. a drunk passenger forced an alaska airlines flight to be diverted overnight. the flight from boston to san diego landed in denver, after the man refused repeated requests from the crew--- to calm down. "he had gotten up and was going towards the captain, so i got up, and stood in front of him and said you're not getting by me. and i prevented him from going any farther." // "it was a little unnerving at first, cause he started yelling we're all going to die, you're all going to die. but then we realized he was just a really drunk guy who was just out of control." denver police escorted the man off the plane. the flight resumed after a 45-minute delay. ###

issued several warnings to carson city residents caught feeding deer this winter, the nevada appeal reports. game wardens say feeding deer can create he says the large predators, particularly mountain lions, into neighborhoods, and increases the number of collisions on city roads. people who intentionally feed deer can receive fines of up to five hundred dollars. the wildlife refuge occupation in oregon four people are still holding out - and posting videos about their protest. protest leader ammon bundy was arrested late 10 others. now, a local sheriff is under investigation, over a confrontation that killed a protester. here's wanda moore. grant county sheriff glenn palmer is under investigation by the oregon sheriff's flooded their office. voice of john bishop, executive director of oregon

"helping planned parenthood abort babies...that's murder." fry also talks about his fear of getting arrested by the fbi. david fry, oregon wildlife refuge occupier: "it's a gamble to go out there." a risky gamble as the refuge takeover nears its 40th day. the washoe county school board has created a community panel to oversee spending on construction and repair. voters will be asked to approve a 781-thousand dollar tax increase in november. the school board said none of it will be spent before hearing from the new committee. due to recent voter dissapproval, the panel was made to improve public confidence in the district's decisions. tesla motors is asking nevada regulators to reconsider a recent decision. the nevada public

new rates late last year for net metering. that's the rate homeowners with solar panels are paid for their excess energy. vegas inc. reports tesla filed a letter with the commission yesterday saying the lower compensation offers no incentives for nevada residents to change their energy consumption. tesla c-e-o elon musk is cousin of solarcity c- e-o lyndon rive and their businesses are complementary. the virginia street bridge looks like it will re-open weeks ahead of schedule. the city has announced a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new bridge on april 12th. the project was originally supposed to be completed by may. virginia street has been closed across the truckee river since the old bridge was demolished in june. the nugget resort and casino has been sold. today, casino officials anounced that marnell gaming will be acquiring the business. the gaming company plans to renovate the nugget's hotel rooms, convention area, casino

of obesity treatment. but now a new study takes a closer look at these clinics... and what they found may surprise you. doctor timothy johnson has tonight's medical minute. losing weight... it can be a difficult task. many americans turn to popular weight loss clinics to help them... some on the advice of their doctors. but now a new study questions whether some of these clinics follow strict medical standards to help people safely lose weight. researchers at johns hopkins looked at nearly two hundred weight loss clinics in the greater washington d.c. metro area... finding that in most cases, the websites of these clinics did not include important guidelines from top medical groups involved in obesity management. and when the researchers contacted these centers directly by phone? only one in five indicated that they were in compliance with these guidelines. more research is

and click on hot topics so you can vote for angela... first round voting ends next tuesday night. it's been a good week for kyle roberts... a super bowl ring, and a new nfl contract the reed high school grad has signed a futures contract with the broncos, which pretty much guarantees his rights for next season... he spent this year on the broncos practice squad.. roberts started every game at right tackle his final two years at nevada... the wolf pack baseball team has added a veteran player for his senior season... justin hazard is a 5th- year senior catcher that has transferred from ucla... he started nine games for the bruins last season, batting .220 with four runs batted in... he played for tj bruce while he was on the bruins coaching staff... and he brings with him a ton of experience. bruce: "i mean he has three pac-12 championships, two trips to omaha and a national champion. so, what more can you say about the value of him? he's caught a lot of arms. he's caught a lot of major league arms." hazard: "as a catcher i'm very vocal as that leader back there. so hopefully when people watch me they awlays
